Another year older, and whether I'm wiser or not is anyone's guess.
The wife and kids surprised the heck out of me by getting me a Kindle for Christmas and the fun just kept coming for my birthday with the happy-happy that is Amazon gift cards. Don't get me wrong, I still love the printed page, but the Kindle's awfully nice and convenient. On top of the books you can buy there are hundreds (thousands?) of free books available online from authors like Jules Verne, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, L. Frank Baum, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, Charles Dickens, and others.
You can get the Kindle software for PC and iPhone right now too and those aforementioned authors' free works will work with the software if the "mobi/Kindle" or PDF versions are used. If I might make a recommendation for something new, it'd be this one if you enjoy things like noir mysteries, vampires and zombies.
Top add to the wow, my brother, his wife and my awesome-as-everything little nephew also came down to visit and picked up the check for lunch at one of my favorite places to eat.
All in all, it's been a pretty great start for the decade.
